As the year came to a close, we would like to thank you for joining us at the ANREV year-end networking drinks event. It was a fantastic opportunity to mingle, connect, and celebrate the achievements of the past year with fellow professionals in the ANREV community.
At this event, Mr John Ehli at RREEF America II, Mr Eric Cheah at Union Investment and Ms Mari Kumagai at Cushman & Wakefield walked us through the real estate investment landscape of the past 11 months and considered the outlook for 2024 in the U.S. and in APAC. It was a fantastic opportunity to mingle, connect, and celebrate the achievements of the past year with fellow professionals in the ANREV community.
The event delivered an evening filled with great conversations and delicious refreshments that fostered new connections and strengthened existing ones.

Mari Kumagai
Director - Head of Research & Consulting, Japan

Mari joined the firm as Head of Research & Consulting for Japan in October 2021. Previously, she was Vice President, Global Research & Strategy at LaSalle Investment Management. In this role she was responsible for formulating investment strategy and updating local market views through internal research reports and investor presentations customized to an investment mandate, for institutional funds. Mari has over 22 years’ experience in servicing global institutional investors as an equity, credit, and institutional property investment research analyst at leading financial institutions, including PIMCO, Citigroup and UBS. She has been acknowledged for the accuracy of her equity research, covering both the Japanese financial services and real estate sectors. As a credit analyst at Moody’s, she led the credit rating processes for sub-sovereign entities and government related entities in Japan.
Mari received a Master of Business Administration in Finance from UCLA Anderson School of Business and holds a Bachelor of Laws from Keio University. She started her career as a Certified Public Accountant covering U.S. tax schemes for Japanese investors in the late 1990s.
John Ehli

Joined the Company in 2005 with 16 years of industry experience. Prior to joining, John served as a Senior Vice President at KBS Realty Advisors. Previously, he worked at First Interstate Bank and as a Principal at his own independent appraisal company.
John holds a BS in Business from Loyola Marymount University.
Eric Cheah
Head of Investment Management Asia Pacific

Mr. Cheah is Head of Investment Management Asia Pacific at Union Investment Real Estate GmbH, managing investment activities for the German real estate fund management company. He has more than 30 years' experience in real estate, which he gained within the region and internationally across a range of different functions for companies including Pacific Star Group, The Ascott Group, Hudson Conway and Fletcher Constructions. He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Building Construction Management. Mr. Cheah is also the Chair of the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) Asia Pacific World Regional Board, a MRICS member and Chartered Surveyor. He is a ULI member, a member of ULI Singapore Integrated Development Council, and a member of ULI APAC Capital Markets Council.
