  • The Case for South East Asia Retail - Structural Opportunity vs. Trading Strategy

    > Asia Pacific retail sales rose from US$3.2 trillion in 2006 (31% of the worldwide total) to US$3.8 trillion in 2011 (41% of the total), and the growth was at least four times faster than in Western mature economies.

    > Within Asia Pacific, South East Asia tends to be overshadowed by these bigger and more high profile players that surround it. However, South East Asia retail markets also feature strong demographic growth; economic resilience, strong tourism potential and the growing retail market maturity.

    > South East Asia presents differing retail investment opportunities, which vary significantly from country to country. Opportunities are mainly limited to the major cities in emerging markets but these opportunities are expanding into fringe areas of capital cities, and second tier cities for maturing and mature markets.
