Joel H. Rothstein is an international real estate and structured finance lawyer and Chair of the Asia Real Estate Practice of the global law firm of Greenberg Traurig LLP. He advises investment banks, financial institutions, private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds, real estate developers, and investors across all major Asia markets with a focus on Japan, Greater China, and South Korea. He also leads the firm’s practice in advising Asia-based outbound cross-border investors in structuring, implementing, and managing equity and debt investments into the United States, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
With more than twenty years’ experience living and working in Asia, Joel has structured, documented, and implemented a number landmark transactions and investment programs in the region, including the first rating agency rated commercial mortgaged-backed securities transaction in Japan, the first non-performing loan securitization transactions completed in Japan and in South Korea, the first comingled USD/RMB real estate fund sponsored by a Chinese financial institution and the first international style non-recourse real estate loans by financial institutions in both Japan and China.
A New York native currently residing in Tokyo, in addition to practicing law, Joel is also an architect and urban designer whose work prior to becoming an attorney included numerous architecture and urban design projects around the world, from Cartagena, Colombia, South America to New York City.
Joel frequently writes and lectures on real estate law and finance as we all as on urban design and development. Joel has been a guest lecturer at Harvard University, Georgetown University and Peking University, and an adjunct professor in the real estate program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
Masahiro is the Unit Head in the New Business Creation Unit at HITACHI CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY CO., LTD., where he is involved in exploring and developing new business opportunities at the intersection of technology, innovation, and industrial value creation.
His work focuses on identifying emerging technologies and global platforms with the potential to enhance productivity, operational efficiency, and decision‑making across asset‑heavy industries. In particular, he has experience evaluating how digital and AI‑driven solutions can be adapted and localised for the Japanese market, while maintaining alignment with global best practices.
Masahiro brings a corporate innovation and practitioner perspective to discussions on AI adoption, platform scalability, and organisational readiness, contributing insights relevant to institutional investors and operators navigating the next phase of digital transformation in real assets
David Fassbender is a managing director at PGIM Real Estate and deputy head of Asia Pacific, in addition to his role as senior portfolio manager for PGIM Real Estate’s Asia-Pacific value-add fund series. As deputy head, David’s responsibilities include leading the business in Japan and oversight of portfolio management strategies across the region. He is a member of the Asia Pacific Executive Committee and Investment Committee.
David has more than 20 years of diverse experience in real estate which includes the structuring and management of real estate funds, acquisition and disposition of major assets and property development across all key markets in Asia-Pacific.
David joined PGIM Real Estate in 2002 in its closed-end U.S. fund business. He subsequently worked in the portfolio management team of an open-end fund, where he was responsible for North America and Asia, before joining the Asia-Pacific value-add fund team in 2007. As part of his role, he relocated to Asia in 2011 where he continues to be based. . Prior to becoming Deputy Head of Asia Pacific, he performed the role of Head of Japan.
David holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Cambridge and a certificate in real estate portfolio management from the European Business School (EBS), Oestrich-Winkel. He is fluent in German and English.
Jonathan is a global citizen, having held senior executive and board roles across Asia and Europe in real estate, venture capital, technology and infrastructure related investments.
In 2015 Jonathan jointly founded Taronga Ventures with a focus on real estate, venture capital, technology and fund management across Asia. The business was designed to bridge the gap between institutional and corporate owners of real estate and the emerging growth companies that are now targeting the real estate and built environment sectors. In 2018 Real Tech Ventures – Asia’s first VC Fund focused on investing into Real Estate technology was launched and the fund has commenced investing with a focus on investments that address carbon reduction, renewable energy and sustainability, health and safety as well as affordable housing.
Jonathan has also held executive roles at Mirvac, as a Director at AREIM in Sweden and as the Portfolio Manager Asia for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) during a period when ADIA completed more than 40 transactions across Asia. In other roles Jonathan has lived and worked in China, the Philippines and Singapore with Savills and was also the Managing Director South East Asia based in Singapore for ING Real Estate. In addition to English, Jonathan speaks Mandarin and Swedish.
Joined the company in September 2025. Prior to joining, he served as an Executive Officer at Deutsche Asset Management and as Head of Alternatives Specialists for the Asia-Pacific region at DWS Group. Until December 2018, he was responsible for real estate investment management in Japan.
Before that, he worked at Prudential Real Estate Investors (now PGIM Real Estate) as a Managing Director, engaged in business development and portfolio management in Japan. Until 2011, he served as Executive Director in the Investment Banking Division, Real Estate Group, at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities / Morgan Stanley.
He began his career at Mitsui Fudosan and, as an original member of Mitsui Fudosan Investment Advisors, was involved in a wide range of operations from real estate investment to securitization.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics from Keio University, an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of International Studies from the Universityʼs School of Arts and Sciences.
Nori Matsushita oversees AirTrunk’s business operations and expansion plans in Japan, as well as local partnerships. Matsushita joined AirTrunk from Mapletree Japan and held leadership positions in real estate development and investment at PwC, Deutsche Bank, and GE Capital.
Praveen Tomy is a Managing Director, AsiaPacific at OpenSpace, the global leader in AI-powered reality capture and automated documentation for the construction industry. A veteran of the Construction Technology (ConTech) sector, Tom has spent his career at the forefront of digital transformation, helping project teams leverage data to build more efficiently and transparently.
Prior to joining OpenSpace, Tomy played a pivotal role in scaling some of the industry’s most recognizable platforms. He holds the distinction of being the first employee hired outside of the United States for PlanGrid, where he laid the foundation for its international growth. Following the acquisition by Autodesk, he was instrumental in the regional expansion of the Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), successfully launching the ecosystem across Japan, India, and the broader APAC market.
With deep-rooted experience at industry giants like Taleo, Oracle and Autodesk, Tomy possesses a comprehensive understanding of the entire project lifecycle—from pre-construction to operations. His expertise lies in bridging the gap between Silicon Valley innovation and the specific operational needs of the Japanese and Asian construction markets. At OpenSpace, he continues this mission by empowering contractors and owners with AI-driven "visual intelligence" to solve the industry’s most complex coordination and site management challenges.
