At this session, Miriam Patterson of Charter Hall, Penny Ransom of Investa, Ben Burston of Knight Frank, Pete King of VFMC and Chris Chiang of Credit Suisse shared with us their views on the latest investment trends in Australia and the market sector outlook, as well as the strategies they are employing to deal with this unprecedented economic situation.

Miriam Patterson
Fund Manager
Charter Hall Direct

Miriam is the Fund Manager for Charter Hall’s Direct business, with over $5 billion of funds under management. She is responsible for growing the institutional quality of investments available to retail investors. Before joining Charter Hall Direct, Miriam worked at Telstra Super as Head of Real Assets, overseeing a $4 billion real estate and infrastructure portfolio.

Miriam has 15 years’ experience in property and infrastructure, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia.

Penny Ransom
Group Executive & Head of Investment Management

Penny is a Group Executive at Investa Property Group, one of Australia’s leading fully integrated commercial real estate companies, committed to helping Australian workplaces to thrive.

Penny leads the Group’s Investment Management business with circa $10 billion of asset under management, including the Investa Commercial Property Fund (ICPF), Oxford Investa Property Partnership and a number of institutional mandates.  Penny’s responsibilities also include Investa’s Corporate Sustainability and Research functions.

Prior to her current role, Penny was Fund Manager of the Investa Office Fund (IOF), an ASX-listed real estate investment trust with $4.5 billion of assets under management prior to being privatised at the end of 2018.

Penny has over 26 years of Australian and international property industry experience.  Prior to joining Investa, Penny was Fund Manager of the diversified Dexus Wholesale Property Fund (DWPF), Head of Capital at Dexus and the Head of Equity at Lendlease in the UK and Europe.

Penny Chairs the NSW Property Council’s Diversity Committee, is on the Board of the Property Industry Foundation (PIF), and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Chief Executive Women (CEW).

Ben Burston
Chief Economist, Australia
Knight Frank

As Chief Economist, Ben provides strategic advice to clients on the property investment market, and lead’s the wider Research and Consulting team at Knight Frank Australia. He is an experienced economist and property research professional, with expertise in both global research and strategy as well as the Australian market. Prior to joining Knight Frank, Ben worked in a number of research roles in London, having begun his career as an economist and policy adviser at the Australian Treasury.

Pete King
Head of Property
Victorian Funds Management Corporation (VFMC)

Pete has over 25 years’ experience in asset management, consulting and funds management.

His role at VFMC involves leading a team responsible for the design, implementation and management of fund and club style investments in a $5 billion property portfolio predominantly invested across Retail, Office, Logistics and Debt strategies.

Chris Chiang
Head of Real Estate - Asia Pacific
Credit Suisse Asset Management

Christopher Chiang is the Head of Real Estate, Asia Pacific at Credit Suisse Asset Management. He sits on the Global Investment Committee for all the international funds under management and is responsible for CSAM’s real estate activities in the APAC region including investment, asset management and business development.

Christopher joined Credit Suisse in 2016 and has over 18 years’ experience in real estate investment banking, private equity and general corporate finance advisory across Asia Pacific. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, he was with CBRE Capital Advisors where he was a Senior Director responsible for the South East Asia region.
