About 30 Young Professionals joined this inaugural event moderated by Toby McMillan of VFMC. During the panel discussion, Barry Brakey of Future Fund, Chris Judd of AMP Capital and Nick Chukiat of UBS discussed the current market trend, challenges and opportunities they have been facing. They also shared their experience in their career path which was very beneficial to our young professionals.

Toby McMillan
Toby is an Assistant Portfolio Manager with VFMC (Victorian Funds Management Corporation). VFMC provides investment and funds management services to Victorian state public authorities with total funds managed of approximately AUD50 billion.

His role involves the management of investments in an AUD3.5 billion portfolio of predominantly core unlisted property funds in Australia, together with a smaller portfolio of core plus and opportunistic funds both in Australia and internationally.

Toby holds a Bachelor of Business (Property) from RMIT University and a Masters in Applied Finance and Investment, as well as being an Associate Member of both the Australian Property Institute and the Financial Services Institute of Australia. Prior to joining VFMC, Toby held positions in capital transactions and valuations at Jones Lang LaSalle.

 
 

Chris Judd
Chris Judd is the Head of Property Funds Management, responsible for overseeing AMP Capital’s Australian and New Zealand unlisted Fund Management Team managing a suite of core property funds, ensuring delivery of investment performance strategic growth goals.

Chris brings more than 28 years’ experience in the property industry to his role, having broad property funds and capital markets experience. Immediately prior to his current role, he was the Fund Manager of AMP Capital Investors’ Global Direct Property Fund, where he was responsible for establishing and implementing the Fund’s strategy.

His experience includes roles as the Fund Manager of a number of sector-specific and diversified listed and unlisted funds having had senior roles in some of Australia’s largest property IPOs and CMBS issuances. He has also built extensive experience in portfolio management in previous roles at Multiplex Capital, Colonial First State and Knight Frank.

Chris is a registered valuer being an Associate of the Australian Property Institute. Chris is Chairman of the Property Council of Australia’s Unlisted Property Roundtable and is a member of the Property Council of Australia’s International and Capital Markets Division Management Committee.

Chris is a member of the AMP Capital Property Leadership Team. He sits on Property Investment Committees for the core property funds along with the Future Directions Alternatives Investment Committee.

 
 

Barry Brakey
The Future Fund was established by the Future Fund Act 2006. The object of the fund is to strengthen the Australian Government’s long term financial position by making provision for unfunded Commonwealth superannuation liabilities.

As at 31 March 2015, the Future Fund has AUD116.96 billion assets.
Barry joined the Australian Government Future Fund as Head of Property to implement the Fund’s global property mandate.

Prior to this he was operating his own property advisory business. He was responsible for over $4 billion of property invested both domestically and globally for a number of Australian government, industry and corporate superannuation and investment funds.

Barry is also a past National President of the Australian Property Institute and has a wide involvement in property industry issues. 

 
 

Nicholas Chukiat
Nick Chukiat was appointed APAC Portfolio Manager for the Global Real Estate Multi-Managers (GMM) team in December 2014. He is responsible for investment selection and growing the GMM client and product franchise for the Asia Pacific region. Nick first joined the APAC GMM team in November 2013 as an Assistant Portfolio Manager. Nick is a voting member of the GMM investment committee and serves as the GMM representative to the UBS Global Real Estate Sustainability Workgroup.


Prior to joining UBS, Nick was an investment manager for AEW Capital Management's Asia-focused, value-added fund series. Prior to relocating to AEW's Singapore office, Nick was an investment analyst for AEW's U.S.-focused, opportunity fund series, based out of Boston, MA. Nick started his career at Barclays Capital in New York in 2005, as a credit risk analyst.
Nick received his MBA from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business and BA in Economics and History from Dartmouth College. Nick is also a CFA charter holder.
