ANREV Young Professionals Working Group Japan and Prudential Women Leaders Network held a lunch event on 4 June at the Tokyo American Club. At this event, industry leaders shared their views on gender diversity in private equity real estate industry

Speakers’ bio follows:

Tami Ooka is Director at Fortress Investment Group Japan and is mainly responsible for sourcing of real estate hard assets, distressed real estate loans and real estate corporations.  Recently, she has been active in Health Care Segment of the firm’s investment.
Prior to joining Fortress, she started and represented SC Lowy, the Hong Kong based fund specializing in distressed debt investment in Japan.
Ms. Ooka was Senior Vice President and worked over eight years at Lehman Brothers Japan’s Global Real Estate Group within the Fixed Income Division where she started the pricing team of distressed real estate loans.  She later moved on to sourcing and deal execution of distressed  real estate loans, real estate corporate and hard asset acquisitions.
Prior to Lehman Brothers, she was Senior Manager at Goldman Sachs Realty where she started the pricing team of distressed real estate loans.
Ms. Ooka spent one year at KPMG’s Advisory Group and provided valuations and due diligence services for distressed real estate loans and corporate acquisitions to various international investment banks.
Prior to that, Ms. Ooka worked for Sumitomo Trust and Banking’s North American branch (currently SMTB) as Vice President to generate real estate and corporate loans.
Ms. Ooka also worked for a boutique investment bank in Los Angeles advising Japanese corporations on cross-border M&A’s and real estate acquisitions in the United States.
Graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University with BA degree.
   

Masue Suzuki is Director, Fund Management Department, IDERA Capital Management (IDERA).  Masue’s current focus is on client and fund execution services for IDERA’s overseas investors as well as capital raise and product development initiatives.

Masue has 13 years experiences in investment management in real estate and related products, including 8 years at Goldman Sachs Realty Japan where she was Deputy Director prior to joining Atlas Partners Japan which was later formed into IDERA.  Masue’s diverse experiences encompassed serving as a global liaison for client inquiry with responsibilities for execution of portfolio analysis and reporting function. She was also held accountable for operational implementation to secure efficiency and excellence in investor reporting process and to coordinate cross-functional, cross-border collaboration upon problem resolution and process engineering.

Masue serves as a member of the Professional Standard Committee at ANREV (the Asian Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles). She receives an M.B.A. from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania with Fulbright Scholarship and passes US-CPA exam.

   

Eryck Su joined Pramerica Real Estate Investors based in Hong Kong as Chief Investment Officer, Asia Pacific in May 2013.

Eryck joined Pramerica from Grosvenor Fund Management where he was a Managing Director. Prior to that, he was Asia Pacific Head of Acquisitions (ex-Japan & Korea) for Deutsche Bank’s real estate investment management division. During his 13 years at Deutsche Bank, he invested on behalf of the bank’s proprietary capital, opportunistic funds, core funds and separate account mandates. Eryck has invested in both debt and equity across all asset classes including office, retail, hospitality and industrial. He has transacted in various markets such as the US, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea and Australia and has worked in Deutsche Bank’s Hong Kong, New York and Bangkok offices.

Prior to joining Deutsche Bank (through merger), he worked in the Global Investment Banking division at Bankers Trust where he worked on M&A and corporate restructuring mandates. Before working in investment banking, Eryck worked in fixed income sales and trading.

He is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Thai. Eryck received his Bachelor of Economics (majoring in Commercial Law and Economics) from the University of Sydney and his Graduate Diploma in Banking from Monash University, Melbourne.

   

Fiona Cho is Executive Director and Portfolio Manager within the Asia Pacific business with a current focus on Pan-Asian funds, including a significant separate account.

Fiona has 13 years of diverse real estate experience across the investment management, investment banking, and equity research industries.

Fiona joined Pramerica Real Estate Investors in 2008 in Singapore as part of the portfolio team managing investments across countries and sectors in the Asia Pacific region. She has also been a key member in the region’s new fund and product development initiatives.

Before joining Pramerica, Fiona was responsible for capital raising and strategic advisory services with the real estate investment banking team at Eastdil Secured (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Co.). Previously, she was an equity research associate at Wells Fargo Securities, covering companies in the U.S. REIT, casino, and hotel sectors.

Fiona holds a M.A. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. (Honors) from University of California, Berkeley.

   

Ryuji Katayama is a Vice President for Prudential Real Estate Investors Japan (PREIJ). Ryuji is currently responsible for acquisitions and dispositions of various funds and separate accounts that PREIJ manages. Ryuji joined Prudential in January 2012 as a Portfolio Manager, mainly responsible for business development, planning disposition strategies within the Japanese portfolio.

Before joining Prudential, Ryuji worked at ORIX Real Estate, where he was an associate in the real estate investment unit.

Ryuji is a registered real estate broker. He earned a Bachelors Science Degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of Reading, UK.
